This authentic Hawaiian-made product utilizes local resources, labor and ingredients, such as molasses and sugar supplied by the historic Gay & Robinson Sugar Plantation, located in Kaumakani. Kauai sugar cane is grown in volcanic soil and fed by pure rainwater from Mt. Wai'ale'ale, the wettest spot on earth.
This very dark or black rum presents a deep mahogany color. The nose is a delightful bouquet of vanilla, crème brûlée, cola and spice. The initial taste is rich caramel, warm molasses and honey leading to bright vanilla and toffee flavors. The finish is warm and smooth for a rum of this young age.
Koloa's Kaua'i Dark Hawaiian rum makes a fine addition to tropical cocktails such as the Mai Tai, Zombie, Rum Runner and Pina Colada, as well as a float on top of any sultry libation.
Koloa dark rum earned a Gold Award in the RumXP International Tasting Competition at the Miami Rum Renaissance Festival. The product was initially available only in Hawaii, but distribution in the American mainland is underway.
Koloa Rum Company is Kauai's first and only commercial distiller, blender and bottler of premium Hawaiian Rum and adult beverage products. Principal production operations are located in Kalaheo and its tasting room and company store is situated on the grounds of the historic Kilohana Plantation near Lihue.
The company produces white, gold, dark and spiced rums, as well as a Mai Tai mix.
