Koi Lounge- dinner and dancing inside Planet Hollywood

If you’re thinking the unexpected closure of Privé (closed at press time, reopening later this month) has left Planet Hollywood with no nightlife options, think again! With several bars and lounges throughout the casino and shopping center, Planet Hollywood still has plenty of great places to have a drink and do some dancing. Among those is Koi Lounge, attached to Koi restaurant on the second level above the casino floor.

Koi Lounge is a bit unexpected. One typically wouldn’t think to find great music, a relaxing atmosphere, and very reasonably priced food at an upscale sushi restaurant, but Koi Lounge has it all. While there’s a daily happy hour from 5-7PM everyday, Koi Lounge also offers a great nightlife option on Fridays and Saturdays. On these days, there’s a special late happy hour from 10PM-12AM and a DJ, so you’ve got your dinner and dancing in one convenient spot.

Now the deals here are great! During happy hour, select specialty drinks and appetizers are half off. So if you come in on a Friday or Saturday night around 10PM, not only will you get some great music, you’ve also got a wonderful meal at an equally wonderful price (my bill was $17 for two fantastic appetizers, it was filling and worth every penny). While the lounge serves the complete menu from the restaurant, the atmosphere is definitely more laidback and the clientele very mixed and relaxed.

Seating is pretty open; there are booths with lower tables designed for drinking and lounging and booths with tables designed for dinner. The lounge is circular with an outer spiral leading to the entrance; small tables also line this area. Inside, the ambiance is dark and intimate. Perfect for cocktails with friends or a romantic dinner for two. The music is mostly Top 40 and not too loud for conversation giving Koi Lounge the perfect ultralounge feel.

Adding to the nightlife aspect of the lounge are the go-go dancers and fully stocked bar by the entrance. Koi Lounge is also a bit hidden so it’s not too crowded and you’ll have plenty of space to mix and mingle. It provides a kind of “private party” feel, perfect for those days when you’re just not feeling the big crowds. So next time you’re looking for a more laidback weekend option or just a great meal with wonderful atmosphere; try Koi Lounge. Who knows, with all the dancing you’ll do throughout dinner, you might even burn a few extra calories!
