Wisconsin-based Kohl's Department Stores will become a sponsor for Oprah Winfrey's new network, which is slated to begin January 1, 2011. Winfrey may be stepping down as a talk show host, but that doesn't mean she is abandoning the medium that made her famous. Winfrey's new network, called OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network, will conduct an online competition to find a talk show host from contestants across the United States. Contestants can submit video clips online or attend one of many casting calls going on throughout the country.
Winfrey is working with TV producer Mark Burnett for the project, who has had success with Survivor and The Apprentice shows. The show that Kohl's is sponsoring is called "Your OWN Show: Oprah's Search For The Next TV Star." Fans can vote online for the person they feel should have their own talk show.
In a Milwaukee Journal Sentinel article, Kohl's executive vice president and chief marketing officer Julie Gardner, said, "This multi-faceted integration will span across several mediums and is designed to reach our shared consumer in a way that is fresh, fun and relevant."
