Kogan Murphy was crowned Miss Gold Coast 2014 on Sunday, according to a report by the Northwest Herald.

The crowning qualifies her as a contestant for Miss Illinois 2014. If she wins the state pageant, she will represent Illinois in September at the Miss America Pageant in Atlantic City.

Murphy was graduated in 2012 from Crystal Lake South High School in Crystal Lake, according to her Facebook profile.

She is a part of the Joffrey Ballet in Chicago, according to its website.

"The Joffrey Ballet’s long list of 'firsts' includes being the first dance company to perform at the White House at Jacqueline Kennedy’s invitation, the first to appear on television, the first classical dance company to go multimedia, the first to commission a rock ‘n’ roll ballet, the first and only dance company to appear on the cover of Time magazine, and the first company to have had a major motion picture based on it, Robert Altman’s 'The Company,'" according to the ballet website.

Murphy was an unsuccessful contestant last year for Miss Illinois.

In 2011, the Chicago Tribune published a photo of her on stage and characterized her as a “figure of grace.”

A luncheon honoring all Miss Illinois contestants is scheduled for May 18 at the State House Inn in Springfield.
