Kodak Theatre changes name just before Oscars

The Kodak Theatre on Hollywood Blvd. in Los Angeles may be nameless for this year's big Oscar Night, just as the red carpet is being prepared to unfurl. Effective immediately, the Eastman Kodak Company has removed its sponsorship from the Hollywood theatre that it has monikered since 2000.

Due to financial restructuring and recent bankruptcy filing, the Kodak corporation decided to cut monetary ties with the internationally known theatre. The timing of the city's physical removal of Kodak signage is unknown, but on paper the deed is already done.

The 2012 Academy Awards will be held at the Hollywood Blvd. theatre on Sunday, February 26. During final preparations for this year's Oscars and red carpet extravaganza, it is uncertain if the now-former Kodak Theatre will steal the spotlight. Will a new corporate sponsor's name appear on the marquee, just in time for its close-up?
