Kobe Bryant has close to seven thousand unique NBA-licensed trading cards, according to Beckett's massive online database. As the Los Angeles Trading Card Examiner, I feel an obligation to let people know about these cards, whether they collect the Black Mamba or not. Come back tomorrow for another Kobe Bryant card to look and admire and wish you had and if you like the Clippers superstar Blake Griffin, check out the Blake Griffin Card of the Day.
Notes:
- Card is numbered to 5. There is also a gold parallel version of the card that is a 1/1.
- Last recent eBay sale: None
- Features four authentic pieces of jersey patches worn in actual NBA games.
- Actual wording on the back of the card to verify authenticity: "On the front of this cards are authentic pieces of patches of jerseys worn by Michael Jordan, LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, and Wilt Chamberlain in NBA games." This is significant because the wording in the back of the cards has gotten more and more vague as to their authenticity and origin over the years.
- Chamberlain memorabilia cards - especially patch cards - are not easy to come by because of the era he played in.
- While the LeBron and Wilt patches feature multiple colors and breaks, the Jordan and the Kobe are as simple as it gets, featuring minimal colors and hardly any stiching.
- Other cards in this set include quad patches of Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Bill Russell, and Chamberlain representing the Lakers-Celtics rivalry, a modern quad of great big men featuring Shaquil O'Neal, Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett, and Hakeem Olajuwon, a Hall of Fame quad of John Stockton, Isiah Thomas, Julius Erving, and Clyde Drexler, a bittersweet Phoenix Suns quad of Steve Nash, Shawn Marion, Amar'e Stoudemire, and Joe Johnson, a questionable Sacramento Kings quad of Mike Bibby, Cuttino Mobley, Brad Miller, and Peja Stojakovic.
- If you look closely at the card, the arrows that are attached to each of their names is pointing to the wrong patch. Jordan's name is pointing LeBron's patch, LeBron is pointing to Wilt's patch, Wilt is pointing to Kobe's patch, and Kobe is pointing to Jordan's patch.
- Championship Ring Count: Jordan has six, Kobe has five, Wilt has two, and LeBron has.... oops....
