Last night the Los Angeles Lakers were riding high coming off a one point victory over their arch rival in the Boston Celtics after Kobe Bryant hit the game-winning jumper with only seconds remaining. On Monday night, the Lakers hoped to keep a good thing going as they headed to Memphis to take on an up and coming Grizzlies team.
In the past two seasons, when the Lakers went into Memphis to face the Grizzlies they left with an injured Andrew Bynum. So coming into this game all eyes were on Bynum and whether or not he could get out of town without walking on crutches.
Fortunately, the Lakers were able to leave Memphis for the first time in two years without a devastating injury, but the real story in Memphis on Monday night was Kobe Bryant on the verge of becoming the Los Angeles Lakers All-Time leading scorer.
Coming into this game hall of fame Laker great and the NBA logo Jerry West was the Los Angeles Lakers All-Time leading scorer and 15th on the NBA's All-Time scoring list with 25,192 points, but Kobe Bryant was just 29 points behind that West's point total and 16th on the list of the league's best scorers.
Kobe has been pretty banged up as of late dealing with a number of injuries including a broken finger and an tweaked ankle, but he came ready to play and make NBA history against the Memphis Grizzlies as he lit up Zach Randolph and company for 44 points eclipsing the Jerry West's number by 15 points.
Unfortunately, the Lakers lost this game to the Grizzlies 95-93 after Ron Artest missed the game-winning three pointer as time expired, but despite the loss, Los Angeles Lakers and NBA history was made as Kobe Bryant makes his way up the NBA's All-Time scoring list!
