Beginning March 25 the Knoxville Zoo will host its four-day spring break Camp WILD for grades 1-5.
Camp WILD is the only camp at the zoo that allows parents to bring their kids to one day if attending the whole week is not possible. Regardless of how long their stay is campers will definitely be given a top-notch time that is sure to pique their interest.
“Each camp is specially-tailored to appeal to the interests of its age group, and includes plenty of activities that involve animals,” Assistant Director of Marketing Tina Rolen said. “We also sneak in quite a bit of educational stuff, too, but everyone is having so much fun they don’t even notice.”
Activities campers will take part in include creating snacks for the animals to eat, making molds of animal tracks and trying to identify that specific animal, as well as taking behind-the-scene tours.
The spring break Camp WILD was created because of how popular the Knoxville Zoo’s summer sessions were.
“We’ve been offering it for the last several years, and this camp is on a smaller scale than our summer sessions-we’ll have about 20 campers for this week,” Rolen said. “However, as interest continues to grow we will certainly look at adding additional camps.”
The Knoxville Zoo has over 800 different animals for guests to look at, one of which is a 2-year-old Komodo dragon.
Tickets for Camp WILD are $135 for the week ($125 for members) and $40 for a day ($35 for members). Campers should also pack a lunch, as only drinks will be provided.
