Knoxville’s Alive After Five has elegant atmosphere, fun music performances (Photos)

If you find yourself around town next Friday, stop by the Knoxville Museum of Art (KMA) to watch its seasonal Alive After Five musical concerts.

Nearing its 20th anniversary, Alive After Five brings up-and-coming and well-known musical artists to the stage. Such names include The Mumbles and Bad Moon Blues Band, both of which perform later this month. Being able to play in the KMA’s Great Hall creates a unique atmosphere for musicians and guests alike.

“It starts with the casually elegant atmosphere of the KMA and its Great Hall, with a wall of windows overlooking World’s Fair Park and downtown,” Alive After Five Coordinator Michael Gill said. “There’s no other place like it.”

Guests are also treated to a wide variety of food, ranging from barbeque from F.A.T.S. BBQ to Asian food from Viet Grill. Other food providers include Bayou Bay Seafood House and Dave’s Dog House. Freshly popped popcorn is also provided.

“We have table seating, and people love to eat and drink and socialize and dance,” Gill said. “You can also have your portrait drawn for free, have a chair massage and even get a Tarot card reading.”

It is clear Alive After Five is far more than just a concert. It is a place where family and friends can get together to eat, dance and socialize.

The winter series is almost over, as there are just two more shows—The Mumbles and Bad Moon Blues Band. But do not worry. The spring series kicks off March 29 and continues through May 17. In all, there are four seasonal series for Alive After Five and 30 or more shows per year.

Tickets are sold at the door, and you are almost assuredly able to get a ticket, as the fire marshal limit is 350 people according to Gill.

“We often get into a standing room only situation, but it’s been a long time since we had to turn folks away because we had reached our fire marshal limit, though we have come close a few times in the past year,” Gill said.

Tickets for the upcoming show on March 8 are $8 at the door at 4:45 p.m. It is free for ages 17 and under. College students and KMA members can get a $4 discount if they bring their valid I.D., according to Gill. The show will last from 6 – 8:30 p.m.
