The majority of Knoxville musicians are very familiar with each other, and it's no exception when it comes to Anthony Bull. The 35-year-old guitar player has been well-known throughout the Knoxville community for years. However, on July 21, this talented guitarist experienced a tragedy that none of us should ever have to experience—he lost his wife, "Lynn” Anne Brazie Bull, age 29, in an automobile accident. On top of this heartbreak, he also has two young daughters (Arielle and Ashlynne) that he must remain strong for and provide for, even in such a trying and stressful time.

Once the news of the accident broke, Anthony's Facebook page was flooded with an outpouring of love and support from friends, family and the local music community. Another thing also happened—as soon as they heard the news, Knoxville musicians, supporters, and even the Knoxville music community as a whole, began proposing a benefit to help the Bull family in their time of need.

The benefit was eventually put together by Chris Casteel of Night Owl Music and The International. It will be held at The Concourse at The International on August 15, and will feature five local bands who unselfishly volunteered to play the benefit. I spoke with Mr. Casteel about the benefit, and he had this to say:

"This is a great opportunity for the community to come together for a worthy cause. This is the difference between a "scene" and a community. We're all a big family, and when family needs help, what do you do? You support each other, and that's exactly what this is about."

If you are a local musician, and you know Anthony, then you are most likely already making plans to attend this benefit. If you are a fan or other member of the Knoxville music community, you should be making plans to attend. Even if you don't know Anthony, you should come out to the benefit. You get to enjoy hearing some of Knoxville's most-talented bands, while meeting many other local musicians and supporters of the local scene. And it's for a GREAT cause!

The local music community speaks out

Anthony's most recent musical adventure was in the local metal band Psychosystem. Although the band recently disbanded, the former members have remained close. I spoke to one of his former band members, vocalist Chris "Syn" Wright, and he had this to say about the passing of Lynn Bull:

"She was part of the (Psychosystem) inmate family, taken tragically from us too soon. One of the scene family has fallen and another needs our help. I know Knoxville will be there, this is for one of our own..."

Jeremy Jones, lead vocalist of Vankale, had this to say about playing the benefit:

"We are honored to be a part of the Lynn Bull memorial event. We have shared the stage with Anthony many times over the years and it's nice to see the local metal scene pull together and help his family."

Brandon Bane, lead vocalist of Belfast Six Pack, stated this:

"We are honored to be a part of this and hope to see all of you out to support this family in their time of need."

Justin Hagamon, bass player for Belfast Six Pack, had this to say:

"We are honored to be a part of this event, and I'm glad to see everyone from friends, family, bands and promoters pull together to help one of our fellow local musicians and his family in their time of need."

Anthony Bull had this to say about the community's support:

"I may feel like I'm walking this path alone, but I know I am not. I have so many great friends and such a great family, something that not just anyone can say these days. I'm so blessed to have each and every one of you. You all have been the collectors of my tears, and not one tear had a chance to even hit the ground. You all have caught every one, and for that I thank you so very much. I love you all, and I will make it through this because of the support I have from you. Much love from Ashlynne, Arielle and myself."

Please make your plans to attend now, and join in on this community's support for one of their own in need. If you cannot attend, but would still like to make a donation to the Bull family, it would be greatly appreciated. Online donations can be made here.
