Knoxville area libertarians and related liberty activists plan to gather Monday, Jan. 14, to hear from a former IRS agent who stopped filing taxes and went to jail as a result.
Featured in the documentary, “America: Freedom to Fascism,” Sherry Peel Jackson went to prison for four years when her work with the IRS led her to conclude no law required the filing of an income tax form. Though a jury disagreed, she remains steadfast in her contention, describing herself as a political prisoner. She was released from custody in August, 2012.
Former Congressman Ron Paul became involved in her case following allegations that she did not receive proper medical care.
Jackson recently published a book entitled “Wrongly Convicted: A Christian Woman’s Journey Through the Valley of Prison.”
Sponsored by The East Tennessee Research Institute, Jackson will speak at Mandarin Chinese Restaurant, 314 Merchant Drive, Knoxville. Organizers plan for dinner beginning at 6 p.m. (at attendee’s own expense), with the program running from 7 to 9 p.m. They request $5 per person to cover expenses for the meeting.
