If you truly love your pets and care about the well being of animals, you should immediately cease shopping at pet stores that sell animals because animals sold in pet stores come from a cruel money making business called the pet trade, comprised of kitten and puppy mills , illegal breeding, the exotic pet trade and the illegal international trade in wildlife.
In the United States and throughout the world, it is important to know that the puppies, kittens and rabbits sold in pet stores come from mills, also known as puppy, kitten and rabbit farms which are inhumane breeding facilities that are only interested in making money. The conditions that the animals live in at these cruel mills are extremely unsanitary due to the overcrowding in wire cages, resulting in the animals having to live in their own feces and urine. The precious innocent animals at these mills are forced to breed continuously for the purpose of profit only and once the babies are born, they are transported in unsanitary trucks often over long distances to pet stores to be sold.
At all costs please avoid buying animals or pet supplies from pet stores that sell animals because every dollar they get from a consumer significantly contributes to the ongoing cycle of the cruel pet trade, and even though some of the well known pet retailer supply stores have adoption events in which local animal shelters feature animals up for adoption, it is more wise to go to the actual shelter to adopt the animal instead of at the adoption event at the store that sells animals.
Throughout Chicagoland, there are many holistic locally owned pet supply stores such as Urbanimal and Bark Bark Club, to name a few, that do not sell animals which makes it quite easy for pet parents to buy pet supplies with a peace of mind. For the sake of helping innocent animals and ending the cruel pet trade, please do not buy an animal from a pet store and only give business to pet supply stores that do not sell animals.
