Knowing Dogs Staff Training is an interactive and comprehensive staff training program comprised of 16 modules of training on dog language and play. It includes numerous photos, videos, evaluations, staff workbooks, and hands-on exercises to ensure pet care staff are skilled in caring for each individual dog in their center.
The program was created by Susan Briggs and Robin Bennett who have over 40 years of experience as operators and consultants in the dog daycare industry. They set out to raise the bar of safety for all pet care facilities offering off-leash play.
“With no formal certification process required by facilities in the pet care industry, the responsibility for providing high quality pet care rests entirely on each individual facility owner,” said Bennett. “Unfortunately, we’ve seen many pet care centers that lack a basic understanding of canine body language, and the result is that dogs are getting injured.”
Keeping dogs and staff safe during off-leash play were driving factors in the development of Knowing Dogs.
“All pet care facilities should have a formal training program for their staff, but creating one is costly and time consuming,” explains Briggs.
Knowing Dogs solves this problem by providing “staff training in a box” that is accessible to every pet care center. Pet owners looking for dog daycare should and often do ask questions about the type of education and formal training the staff receive on dog body language.
Knowing Dogs is based on their book, Off-Leash Dog Play: A Complete Guide to Safety and Fun. To purchase Knowing Dogs, visit Robin Bennett’s online store.
