Know Worthiness - A Devotion

Deuteronomy 32:1-4 (NKJV)

“Give ear, O heavens, and I will speak;And hear, O earth, the words of my mouth. Let my teaching drop as the rain,My speech distill as the dew, as raindrops on the tender herb, and as showers on the grass. For I proclaim the name of the Lord:ascribe greatness to our God.He is the Rock, His work is perfect;for all His ways are justice, a God of truth and without injustice;
righteous and upright is He.”

Believers would readily agree that God is worthy of all our praise. He is excellent in all things. The Lord deserves the honor, glory and power bestowed on Him by His Followers. He is proven, tried and true. We easily accept the idea that God is greater than anything we know to be true. However, worthiness is not just a characteristic reserved for the Character of God. You were created to be worthy, too. As you back up slightly shaking your head or look around with one finger pointing to your chest, YES YOU! You are created in the Image of God. (Genesis 1:27) The only deficit in humanity is sin. When sin is removed, we become vessels worthy of the Lord’s Spirit and holy inhabitation of our life. Through righteousness, people are made upright before the Lord and now able to live in the worthiness of God through Jesus Christ. However, to humanity this is incomprehensible. Knowing every single fault and failure in our life, we reject the notion that we will ever be worthy of God’s Love. The word “worthy” has two distinct definitions. Worthy is defined as “deserving of” which represents God, the Father, Jesus, His Son and the Holy Spirit. The Trinity of God is deserving of our faith. It is also defined as “fit for.” Mankind is “fit for” worthiness simply by the Blood of Jesus Christ which removes the only thing standing between you and being worthy. It really doesn’t matter how you see yourself or what the world has labeled your life to be. God created you in His Image which makes you worthy. Worthy is synonymous with the words “excellent” (God) and “righteous” (People). God is excellent and through the transforming power of God that removes sin and makes us righteous, people are made worthy to live in the Presence of God and bask in His Favor. His Love pulled you from the darkness into the Light in order to shower you with His Love. This Love is reserved for the worthy. You are worthy of God’s Love today!

Psalm 145:1-3 (NLT)

I will exalt you, my God and King, and praise your name forever and ever. I will praise you every day; yes, I will praise you forever. Great is the LORD! He is most worthy of praise! No one can measure his greatness.

No one can measure the Greatness of God. His Presence is overwhelming when one considers that He created everything. His Purity is staggering in the Truth that God cannot change but remains the great I AM no matter what. No one is greater than our God. It is undeniable that God is awesome and oh so worthy of all of our praise. We submit our life to God in worship but too often do so as if repaying a debt rather than approaching God in a love affair filled with passion and intimacy. You can never repay God. You cannot make yourself worthy of His Love and Affection, but rather are powerless. It is God who establishes righteousness in His People and by obedience we chase after the Lover of our Soul to be apprehended by His Love. God makes His People worthy of His Love because of His Greatness. No one can measure, match or maintain His Love as it flows in abundance from the Throne of God continuously overwhelming His Children.

Revelation 4:9-11 (NLT)

“Whenever the living beings give glory and honor and thanks to the one sitting on the throne (the one who lives forever and ever), the twenty-four elders fall down and worship the one sitting on the throne (the one who lives forever and ever). And they lay their crowns before the throne and say, “You are worthy, O Lord our God, to receive glory and honor and power. For you created all things, and they exist because you created what you pleased.”

The worthiness of God calls us to worship. In Heaven, the Lamb of God sits on the throne and every living being gives Him glory, honor and thanks continuously without end. It is their purpose. It is their fulfillment. Why? “For you created all things, and they exist because you created what you pleased.” God created us for His Good Pleasure. His Love would have a people to contain it. However by sinful corruption, His Vessels of Love became tainted and unusable anymore. It is important for you to understand that you are worthy of God’s Love because it is the intended purpose of your creation. You were made to be loved by God. No matter what you have done, will do or are in the midst of doing, God has one thing in mind when He things about you. He longs to pull you from the darkness and fulfill His Purpose for your life. God wants to pour His Love in you until it overflows. Jesus Christ waits on the Throne of Heaven for all God’s Children to become worthy. He made a way for you to be worthy. Righteousness is available for those who call on the Name of the Lord. There is a place for you at the altar of God worshipping in the Beauty of His Holiness. You were made to worship. You were made to receive. God is ready…are you?

Isaiah 6:5-7 (NLT)

Then I said, “It’s all over! I am doomed, for I am a sinful man. I have filthy lips, and I live among a people with filthy lips. Yet I have seen the King, the LORD of Heaven’s Armies.” Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a burning coal he had taken from the altar with a pair of tongs. He touched my lips with it and said, “See, this coal has touched your lips. Now your guilt is removed, and your sins are forgiven.”

The Presence of God reveals human insufficiency. With our weakness exposed, it is difficult to move past guilt and shame for a life misspent on sin to receive the fulfillment of God. However, God is ready to make you clean again. Are you willing to accept that the Blood of Jesus Christ is enough to make you right with God? Go ahead and exhale and forget being offended, let’s be real for a moment. There are many weaknesses that a person will readily disclose when faced with an insurmountable task, but faith in God requires us to rely on His Strength and Power not our own. We must move into the Presence of God despite our weakness to experience the favor and love reserved for the worthy. Obedience moves feet that are heavy with despair and fear at the thought of facing God in total transparency. The revelation of total insufficiency of self opens the door to God’s Fulfillment, but you can only receive in righteousness. Righteousness is reserved for the worthy. God will forgive your sins. He has accepted payment in full from Jesus. His Spirit will transform you from the inside out until the only thing that remains is His Glory and Light. Will you accept your position of righteousness and worthiness in God? Or will you continue to try to fill in the gaps and make it right before coming to the Lord once and for all? You will never be worthy of God’s Love outside of righteousness. Position yourself at the altar of God and remain there. You are worthy in this place. Obedience roots out the sin that would remain to be replaced with faith. God is the lifter of your head. He will make you worthy because He is worthy!

Matthew 8:8-10 (NLT)

But the officer said, “Lord, I am not worthy to have you come into my home. Just say the word from where you are, and my servant will be healed. I know this because I am under the authority of my superior officers, and I have authority over my soldiers. I only need to say, ‘Go,’ and they go, or ‘Come,’ and they come. And if I say to my slaves, ‘Do this,’ they do it.” When Jesus heard this, he was amazed. Turning to those who were following him, he said, “I tell you the truth, I haven’t seen faith like this in all Israel!

Those who are worthy have faith that can take the Lord at His Word. Faith that allows God to operate even when we cannot see Him, but know He is there. It is a relationship with God that has taken into account that He is worthy and in righteousness accepts that His Word will work in our life. The centurion soldier understood the authority of God. He accepted God’s Love without reservation. He had decided that if God released His Word in his life that it would be established. Humble before the Lord yet secure in his position with God, the soldier asked with faith that the Lord would grant his request. Are there times you dare not ask God for things knowing what you have done to separate you from His Presence? Guilt builds a fence around your heart that blocks God’s Access. It produces doubt that will grind away at faith until it crumbles. God in His Authority has declared you righteous through the Blood of Jesus Christ. Will you accept His Authority and permit God access to your life? Or will continuous guilt be your downfall? God is worthy. He has declared you worthy. Accept this position in faith and smash the stronghold of doubt in your life.

Luke 15:20-24 (NLT)

“So he returned home to his father. And while he was still a long way off, his father saw him coming. Filled with love and compassion, he ran to his son, embraced him, and kissed him. His son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against both heaven and you, and I am no longer worthy of being called your son.’ “But his father said to the servants, ‘Quick! Bring the finest robe in the house and put it on him. Get a ring for his finger and sandals for his feet. And kill the calf we have been fattening. We must celebrate with a feast, for this son of mine was dead and has now returned to life. He was lost, but now he is found.’ So the party began.

You are worthy by adoption. You are the Son or Daughter of the Most High God. (Romans 9:26) He will not reject you upon your return but in fact, celebrate that you though once doomed to die have now been found alive. No father would reject a lost child. Your Father has not rejected you. He has saved your inheritance for your safe return. He paid every outstanding debt you owed so you can be free. Your Father is desperate to hear your voice. He is lonesome for your heart. You are worthy by lineage. The only way to lose an inheritance is to die or fail to meet the provisionary guidelines. Jesus Christ rescued you from death and God will establish you in righteousness through obedience that is facilitated by His Spirit. You win! God has made you victorious. He has made you worthy of success in His Kingdom. All you have to do is enter to win!

I Corinthians 15:9-10 (NLT)

For I am the least of all the apostles. In fact, I’m not even worthy to be called an apostle after the way I persecuted God’s church. But whatever I am now, it is all because God poured out his special favor on me—and not without results. For I have worked harder than any of the other apostles; yet it was not I but God who was working through me by his grace.

Paul spent the first part of his life killing Christians. He persecuted the church of Jesus Christ relentlessly until the day he met the Lord. Everything changed in an instant. Imagine the ramifications on the early church if this mighty man of God, Paul, had cowered in the shadows of guilt and shame rather than claiming his inheritance through righteousness and accepted the fact he was worthy of God’s Favor. God’s Favor is reserved for the worthy. Worthiness is established in creation and through the Blood of Jesus Christ. End of story, there is nothing you can do to secure this position except to accept it by faith and trust in the Lord. Allowing God to transform you from the inside out and lavish His Amazing Love to fill every void is the only way. You are worthy because He is worthy. God has proclaimed you His Child. He has declared that you are a worthy vessel of His Love and Light to carry it to the world. It really doesn’t matter how you perceive yourself, God’s perspective is the only one that matters so why not see yourself as God does.

2 Thessalonians 1:11-12 (NLT)

So we keep on praying for you, asking our God to enable you to live a life worthy of his call. May he give you the power to accomplish all the good things your faith prompts you to do. Then the name of our Lord Jesus will be honored because of the way you live, and you will be honored along with him. This is all made possible because of the grace of our God and Lord, Jesus Christ.

Be challenged to live a life worthy of your calling. Not sure what that is? It is found in the Word of God. To know God requires that we come to an understanding that everything good in our life is from Jesus Christ released in by our faith to those who are worthy. You are worthy of God’s Love today. He made you that way as a vessel to contain His Light and His Love. Do not second guess your purpose or downplay your potential. You can experience all that God has for you simply by returning to the Father with a humble heart ready to be captivated by His Love. His Arms are wide open. He is desperate for your call. Let the Lord empower you to live in the worthiness of your calling all made possible by the Grace of God and our Lord Jesus Christ. It is free. You are free. But it was purchased at a great price. Make the most of your life by living in the worthiness of your calling. Know God and you will accept that you are worthy!
