Know His Blood - A Devotion

John 6:54-58 (NLT)

“But anyone who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise that person at the last day. For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. Anyone who eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in him. I live because of the living Father who sent me; in the same way, anyone who feeds on me will live because of me. I am the true bread that came down from heaven. Anyone who eats this bread will not die as your ancestors did (even though they ate the manna) but will live forever.”

What can wash away my sins? Nothing but the Blood of Jesus. What can make me whole again? Nothing but the blood of Jesus. Oh, precious is the flow that makes me white as snow. No other fount I know, nothing but the Blood of Jesus. When was the last time the Blood of Jesus Christ was preached in the local church? If the Blood of Jesus Christ is the power that washes away generations of sin and innate contamination, if it makes us complete before God, and is the giver of Eternal Life, how do so many people feel they have “arrived” without out it? To call on the Name of the Lord requires passage through the Blood of Jesus Christ. Any other sacrifice before God is unacceptable and quickly rejected. Where is the Blood of Jesus Christ in the church today? In the past, we would sing of the Blood of Jesus. Communion remembered the covenant made between mankind and God through the Blood. There is power, power, wonder-working power in the Precious Blood of the Lamb. The Blood has left the church. Without the Blood of Jesus Christ, there is no remission of sin. Ah, remission. It is a popular and sought after word to the one battling cancer or any other life-threatening, debilitating disease. However, remission is not a cure. It is simply abatement. It is simply a pardon or forgiveness. When connected to disease, remission is the lessening of intensity as in the severity. Remission reduces the term of a sentence. But remission does not end the fight it is a reprieve in the midst of it. The Blood of Jesus is a daily requirement for a Child of God because sin prevails. It never goes away completely while living a natural life. However, without the Blood of Jesus, people are unable to pass from death to life. Jesus died that we would have life more abundantly. His Blood enabled the fulfillment of God’s Covenant (Promises) to His People. Without the Blood, there is no relationship, only religion. Without the Blood, there is no New Life, only death. What can wash away my sins? NOTHING but the Blood of Jesus…it is time that the Body of Jesus Christ return to the Cross which is the climax of redemption.

I Peter 1:18-20 (NLT)

For you know that God paid a ransom to save you from the empty life you inherited from your ancestors. And the ransom he paid was not mere gold or silver. It was the precious blood of Christ, the sinless, spotless Lamb of God. God chose him as your ransom long before the world began, but he has now revealed him to you in these last days.

The Blood of Jesus Christ was chosen before the world began. Jesus was not an after-thought of God but an intricate part of God’s Plan to save His People from their sin. The Blood of Jesus began before time as we know it. The Blood was ready before the first sin. God’s Blood is powerful. God was ready to make us right from the moment sin entered the world. Mankind would struggle with the blood of sacrifice from the beginning. It is messy and cumbersome. In the Old Testament, animals would be raised only to be sacrificed repeatedly for man’s never-ending sin problem which would only complicate further man’s journey back to God.

Romans 3:25-26 (NLT)

For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. People are made right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed his life, shedding his blood. This sacrifice shows that God was being fair when he held back and did not punish those who sinned in times past, for he was looking ahead and including them in what he would do in this present time. God did this to demonstrate his righteousness, for he himself is fair and just, and he declares sinners to be right in his sight when they believe in Jesus.

As God carefully laid out His Plan to save man from their sin in the Old Testament, man accepted religion but missed the point of redemption. Consumed by the Law, when Jesus Christ arrived they totally missed the point. God presented Jesus Christ as a sacrifice once and for all. People are made right as they identify this sacrifice, but to truly know the Lord one must participate in the sacrifice as well. It cannot be overlooked or ignored because the New Life promised in the covenant of God with His People is accessible only through the Blood. Just as Jesus came into this world so does mankind. Jesus allowed man to identify with God not only His Law. God demonstrated righteousness to people. Jesus Christ lived a sinless life. The Blood of God was in Him and while this seems so elementary it is highly complex or the Body of Christ would understand and know the importance of the Blood of Jesus when it comes to God’s Redemption plan. It flows from the Cross of Calvary into Eternity.

Revelation 22:1-3 (NLT)

Then the angel showed me a river with the water of life, clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb. It flowed down the center of the main street. On each side of the river grew a tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit with a fresh crop each month. The leaves were used for medicine to heal the nations. No longer will there be a curse upon anything. For the throne of God and of the Lamb will be there, and his servants will worship him.

The river that is filled with the Water of Life represents an accepted sacrifice. No longer will there be a remission of sins but through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, New Life has given way through death. Sin is no more. This is the culmination of righteousness and redemption. The Brand New Life found complete in Eternity no longer requires a sacrifice. It has been fully accepted and your redemption symbolizes that. The ability to stand before God and not be consumed by His Justice means Jesus paid the sin debt in full and now throughout all Eternity we will worship the Lamb always remembering the Blood of Jesus that made this River of Life possible. The Blood of Jesus Christ was present before Creation. You are not an after-thought of God. It flows from the Old Testament through the New Testament making it accessible to all. It is Eternal Life for those who choose to do more than be a bystander at the Cross but for those willing to dive in.

Hebrews 9:23-25 (NLT)

That is why the Tabernacle and everything in it, which were copies of things in heaven, had to be purified by the blood of animals. But the real things in heaven had to be purified with far better sacrifices than the blood of animals. For Christ did not enter into a holy place made with human hands, which was only a copy of the true one in heaven. He entered into heaven itself to appear now before God on our behalf. And he did not enter heaven to offer himself again and again, like the high priest here on earth who enters the Most Holy Place year after year with the blood of an animal.

The Tabernacle was God revealing Heaven to His People and what must be accomplished to enter the Kingdom of God. After Moses read God’s Commandments, he would sprinkle blood and water on God’s Law and His People (verses 19-22) It was representative of the Covenant God promised for His People. Hebrews 9 compares the transition from Old Testament blood sacrifice to the Sacrifice of Jesus Christ once and for all. The sacrifice of animals was symbolic. The Blood shed by Jesus Christ was complete. No longer would there be a need to constantly return to the altar with another sacrifice for faults and failures, but Jesus made it complete as the High Priest who would secure our Covenant with God once and for all. However, there is a difference to be noted. Mankind did not consume the sacrificed animals. But we are to be consumed with the Blood of Jesus Christ. We are to not only observe the sacrifice. Old Testament believers did not participate in the religious duties of their time, all they could do was wash as bystanders. But now Jesus Christ desires to live in His People so now we must become priests in our own right as we consume the Blood of Jesus Christ. Only high priests could eat the sacrifice. Now the Word of God is moving from the Ark in the Tabernacle into the Heart of Mankind. It is by design. The Blood of Jesus is now alive inside you. His Spirit lives in you. The Covenant between man and His Creator is made complete when we choose to acknowledge and devour the Word of God that is brought to life in our hearts by His Blood and His Spirit.

I John 5:6-9 (NLT)

And Jesus Christ was revealed as God’s Son by his baptism in water and by shedding his blood on the cross—not by water only, but by water and blood. And the Spirit, who is truth, confirms it with his testimony. So we have these three witnesses— the Spirit, the water, and the blood—and all three agree. Since we believe human testimony, surely we can believe the greater testimony that comes from God. And God has testified about his Son.

Total agreement with God requires the Spirit, the water and the Blood. They must all agree. The absence of the Blood of Jesus Christ nullifies the redemption power. Pay close attention to the theory of agreement here. The Spirit is the Living God ready to live in you. The Water is God’s anointed and acceptance of such a sacrifice. The Blood confirms righteousness and without it you cannot make it to God. Life in agreement requires God’s Spirit, God’s Word and the Blood of Jesus Christ, God’s Son. Too many times religion picks and chooses what part of God they are most comfortable with. Sneaking the “blood” in a communion service is not nearly enough. Without the Blood of Jesus, you are rendered powerless. It is the Blood of Jesus Christ that puts our sin in remission. We cannot escape it. It is in our blood. But the Blood of Jesus transfused into our old life creates New Life. Those who desire a pardon from God and the measure of Grace that offers redemption must not only identify the Blood, but pass through the Blood and Ingest the Blood of God which is Eternal Life.

Colossians 1:19-20 (NLT)

For God in all his fullness was pleased to live in Christ, and through him God reconciled everything to himself. He made peace with everything in heaven and on earth by means of Christ’s blood on the cross.

The Blood of Jesus Christ completes His People. We are made at peace with God through its cleansing flow. It is to be a valuable and intricate part of our existence to live in remission from sin. It flows from the Throne of God until the day we are redeemed. It is precious and priceless. It should never be taken for granted. It is the New Life that God’s People cry out for. Without the Blood, there is no redemptive or resurrection power. Let God transfuse your broken, depleted, diseased and dying life with the Blood of Jesus Christ. Ask to be covered by the Blood of Jesus once more. It is difficult to see the Cross and not realize it was for you He endured such suffering. The brokenness found at the Cross of Jesus Christ will empty your life of the sin that prohibits you from experiencing the overflow of God’s Grace, Mercy and Love waiting for you.

Hebrews 13:20-21 (NLT)

Now may the God of peace—who brought up from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great Shepherd of the sheep, and ratified an eternal covenant with his blood— may he equip you with all you need for doing his will. May he produce in you, through the power of Jesus Christ, every good thing that is pleasing to him. All glory to him forever and ever! Amen.

May you know the Power of the Blood of Jesus today. May it cover you and fill you to the fullest as God transform your old life into the Brand New Life promised in His Word and accessible through the Blood of Jesus Christ. The Power of God is available to you today though it may be uncomfortable at first to face the ramifications of our sin as we meet Jesus at the Cross. Your fulfillment waits in this place of death with redemption just on the other side. What can wash away our sins? Nothing but the Blood of Jesus. What can make us whole again? Nothing but the Blood of Jesus. What are you waiting for? Wade into the floodwaters of His Grace and Mercy. Step into the cleansing flow of God’s Love poured out just for you. Nothing but the Blood of Jesus.
