Knitting with Icelandic wool (Video)

Vedis Jonsdottir has compiled a collection of 65 knitwear designs for the family using Icelandic lopi yarn in "Knitting with Icelandic Wool". This oversized, harcovered book has large, clear photographs of beautiful knitted designs. All the photographs were taken in Iceland. The patterns are clearly layed out and contain graphs, in color where needed. Measurements are shown for finished sizes of sleeve length, width and length from the underarm to the hem, for fit.

Istex an Icelandic yarn company that specializes in lopi yarn. Vedis works for Istex as a freelancer in creating new yarn colors. Lopi yarn can only be obtained from the breed of Icelandic sheep. This breed produces a dual coat. The outer hairs are called tog and the lighter softer inner part of the coat is called thel. The designs use Istex yarn.

The garments are designed predominantly by Vedis but there are garments by other designers. All are fun to admire and to choose which ones you will knit. You will also find patterns for hats, gloves, a pullovers, cardigans, socks, legwarmers, dresses, vests, scarf, hats, hoodies and even one for Fido.

Fidrildaslod is a contemporary lopi design of a young girls sleeveless, dress. The band across the bodice is made up of butterflies. The hem has a lace edge. The dress is for sizes 2, 3, 4, 6 and 8 and worked in the round to the armhole. The neck and armholes are trimmed in crochet. Your little girl (granddaughter) will love it and you will like the contemporary look of the dress.

Lappi is a child size knitted cardigan with a front zipper. Knit in the round, the colorful yolk design is puppies, mountains and a sky of birds. The solid part of the sweater is shown in a choice of two individual colors. This sweater will keep them warm and the zipper is a nice touch.

Nu is a woman's simple solid color, turtleneck sweater where all the attention is paid to the decorative decreases in the yolk. Using bulky lopi and size 17 needles makes quick work of this sweater. A must have sweater for your wardrobe.
