Fall trends for 2014, according to HuffPost and knitting's fashion barometer, Vogue Knitting, are capes and ponchos, big and bold, once again. Huffington Post, the Internet's free news maven, put out a "buy" on capes and ponchos and advises "forget the statement coat; this year it's all about capes," of which, for knitters, there are knitting patterns galore.
#16 in Vogue Knitting Fall 2014 is all about a particularly easy and quick knit colorblocked poncho pattern by Becky Kimmelstiel, using Koigu Wool Design's bulky weight yarn and US size 13 (9mm) needles to knit in the round from the top down to the high and low side vents, which is then worked back and forth and edged in garter stitch.
Vogue Knitting is available at Barnes and Noble or at your local knitting yarn shop.
New at Garn Studio and a free pattern in many different languages is this cute poncho pattern with a hood, called "Autumn Stroll," and great for just that. Imagine visiting all those yummy yarn-laden fall harvest fairs, what a versatile pattern for 2014.
HuffPost asks, "What's fall without some fun fur?" and Rowan has answered back with its new "Big Accessories" brochure, highlighting a new fun fur and chunkier yarns. There are two capes or poncho patterns, and several quick patterns using its new fur yarn.
