Knit a pair of soft scrap yarn slippers (Photos)

Knit up a pair of soft slippers in a jiffy! With a minimal amount of yarn and an evening or two, you’ll have a nice gift for yourself or someone special in your life. They are perfect as a tuck-in for nursing home residents. Use up your scraps for economy.

MATERIALS:

Red Heart Knitting Worsted, 4 Ply: 2 ozs in color desired; 1 oz. in contrasting color for pompons.

NEEDLES:

For Sizes 5-6 use straight knitting needles #5

For sizes 7-8 use straight knitting needles # 6

For sizes 9-10 use straight knitting needles #8.

Crochet hook G/4.25 mm.

2 Buttons...each 3/4" in diameter.

DIRECTIONS;

Cast on 4 sts.

Row 1: Knit across.

Row 2: Increasing in first and last sts, K across (6 sts).

Row 3: Knit across (6 sts).

Repeat Rows 2 and 3 alternately until there are 22 sts.

Next Row: Knit, increasing in each st across (44 sts).

Next Row: * K 2, P 2; repeat from * across for ribbing section.

Continue to work in K 2, P 2 ribbing until piece measures 6 inches from start of ribbing.

Next Row: * K 2 tog; repeat from * across row (22 sts).

Next Row: Knit across.

Next Row: Decreasing 1 st at beg and end of row, K across,

Repeat last 2 rows until 10 sts remain.

Next Row: K 4; bind off 2; K 4.

Next Row: K 2 tog, K 2, cast on 2 sts, K 2, K 2 tog.

Next Row: K across.

Next Row: K 2 tog, K 4, K 2 tog.

Next Row: K across.

Next Row; K 2 tog, K 2, K 2 tog.

Next Row; K across. Bind off.

Finishing: Fold slipper in half through rib section, and stitch seam closed on both ends. Turn right side out. Using Size G crochet hook, attach yarn to a seam, and then crochet around entire top edge as follows: * ch 3, work a sc (single crochet) a 1/2" away; repeat from * around. Fasten off. Make second slipper to match.

Buttons; Place slipper on foot; mark place for button on strap; stitch button in place.

Pompon;..Make 2; Cut a 4" x 6" cardboard. Wind double-yarn (2 strands) 25 times around the 4" width. Slip from cardboard and tie strands securely together around center with a strong thread. Cut loops at each end, and stitch in place on each slipper as shown in picture.
