Knights bow out early

Richwoods opened Regional play in their inaugural year in Class 4A against the Pekin Dragons at East Moline. The Knights came out with a furious and stifling defense while opening a 16-11 lead after one quarter. They stretched it to 11 points before a late second quarter rampage by the Dragons closed the score to 27-24 at halftime.

Pekin took an early third quarter lead, but the Knights stepped the defense back up, hit the boards and led 38-33 after three. However, the balls weren't bouncing their way in final stanza as Pekin regained the advantage and held on to win, 51-46. They will now face Rock Island Friday night for the Regional title. In local Class 3A action, theRegional final contests Friday night that will feed into next week's Sectional at Bradley's Renaissance Center have Central meeting Metamora at Chillicothe, Limestone vs. Washington at East Peoria, Quincy Notre Dame vs. Galesburg at Galesburg and Mendota against LaSalle-Peru at Rock Falls.

Earlier in the week, the Richwoods Lady Knights suffered defeat in the Class 4A Supersectional in Normal at the hands of Marian Catholic, 56-37. Shots not falling, turnovers and foul trouble plagued the Lady Knights. Nonetheless, they went down fighting and had a season to proud of.
