St. Norbert College's Knight Theatre will present "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" in Abbot Pennings Hall of Fine Arts January 23-27, 2013. "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" is based upon the 1988 film starring Steve Martin and Michael Caine.
The storyline centers on two con men living on the French Riviera: high-brow Lawrence Jameson, who makes his lavish living by talking rich ladies out of their money, and low-brow Freddy Benson, who swindles women by waking their compassion with lies about his ill grandmother. After a chance meeting on a train, they unsuccessfully attempt to work together, only to find that this small French town isn’t big enough for the two of them. So they make a bet: The first one to swindle $50,000 from a young heiress triumphs and the other must leave town. What follows are a musical series of schemes, masquerades and double-crosses in which nothing may ever be exactly what it seems.
Featuring the music and lyrics of David Yazbek, it had its world premiere at San Diego’s Old Globe Theatre in Sept. 2004. The show opened on Broadway in March 2005 to rave reviews, garnering 11 Tony Award nominations including Best Musical.
Directed by Ashley Wolford (Luxemburg, Wis), the cast of "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" will be led by Matthew Christoff (Luxemburg, Wis) as Lawrence Jameson, and Ryan Penkal (Germantown, Wis) as Freddy Benson. The show also features Carli Uphill (New Franken, Wis) as Christine Colgate, Aaron Reynolds (Aurora, Ill) as Andre Thibault, Lauren Belanger (Escanaba, Mich) as Muriel Eubanks and Alicia Skrivanie (Green Bay, Wis) as Jolene Oaks.
The ensemble includes Jordan Podoll (Berlin, Wis), Sophie Ahlberg (Stockholm, Sweden), Marcia LaSalle (New Berlin, Wis), Ben Cassel (Abrams, Wis), Lawrence March (De Pere, Wis), Michael Jacobs (Appleton, Wis), Tanner Lundquist (Sister Bay, Wis), Kasara Sinkula (Kewaunee, Wis), Kelsey Upchurch (Appleton, Wis), Madison Galloway (Vandalia, Ohio), Ericka Jahnke (Green Bay, Wis), Meredith Pointer (Madison, Wis) and Meaghan Dressel (River Forest, Ill).
