Filming for Knight & Day (formerly called Wichita) starring Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz continues in and around Boston. The production closed Rutherford Avenue from Sullivan Square to Austin Street yesterday morning from 7:00 to 11:00 a.m. This is the same area where long-time Cruise stunt-understudy Casey O’Neill was spotted last weekend on the hood of a car careening down Rutherford Avenue. O’Neill has worked on several Cruise movies, including Valkyrie, Mission: Impossible III, War of the Worlds, Collateral and The Last Samurai.
On Friday, a wedding reception scene that included Diaz and her on-screen sister (played by Maggie Grace) was filmed at the Jacob Wirth Restaurant in Boston's Theatre District. In the film, Diaz – dressed in a quirky yellow-sundress-with-black-cowboy-boots ensemble – reportedly walks Grace's character down the aisle as a stand-in for their late father.
The Cruise-Diaz re-teaming (they previously worked together in 2001’s Vanilla Sky) centers on an unlucky-in-love woman who meets a mysterious man on a blind date who, according to Wikipedia, “pulls her into a journey to protect a powerful battery that holds the key to an infinite power source.” The film is being billed as a spy-comedy-romance-thriller, and the production includes an attention-getting list of supporting actors (Peter Sarsgaard, Viola Davis, Paul Dano, Maggie Grace, Marc Blucas and Oliver Martinez).
James Mangold (Walk the Line, 3:10 to Yuma) is directing the film which reportedly will add scenes filmed in Spain, Austria, the tropics and other international locations to the Boston footage. It’s slated for a July 2010 release.
The video below, from June 2009, shows Diaz receiving her star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame, with friends Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes joining in the celebration of this special event.

Tourists can go where the stars were filmed -- cool!
Interesting to read about these films far in advance to their release.
