Jacob Hollingsworth, 23, attacked Cooper on East 4th Street sometime before 2:30 a.m. Sunday as she was walking home from an evening in town.
Rachel Collin’s heroes, and first-responders, turned out to be passers-by who came to her aid, not only disarming her assailant, but rendering him unconscious.
Collins wounds included several stabs to her upper body and although the injuries were severe, she was treated and released at the local hospital.
Hollingsworth did not fare as well. His injuries from those who rescued the young co-ed have left him in critical condition at in Greenville.
There was no indication if the rescuers were also Airmen from Seymour-Johnson.
Authorities have yet to sort out if Hollingsworth and Collins knew each other prior to the knifing incident.
