Since the 1900’s the vicinity was known to not only locals, but to hikers and mountain enthusiasts coming from all over the region. In 1920 the first restaurant was built at the peak, known as the “Rostalm”, with its wonderful country kitchen and home cooked meals. Nestled into the mountain its original charm still exists, offering comfortable rooms with traditional flair.

After World War II the “Rostalm” was occupied by the American army and used as a recreational place for soldiers. These same soldiers built a toboggan run which still exists to this day.

Hikers beware, the trek isn’t all that easy as the slope at times is relatively steep, but you will be rewarded at the end of your journey with a panoramic unmatched view, a wonderful meal and a cold beer. Many customary dishes are served like Germknoedel with Vanilla Sauce and Schmankerln, certainly worth the try.
