
Kneaded Specialties is a new gluten free bakery that is becoming well known to the local gluten free community. Located in Lee's Summit, Kneaded Specialties has been doing tastings and events all over Kansas City. The buzz has been fantastic, time to find out why. Sherry McGarrah, owner and recipe genius, extended the invitation to come out to the bakery and have a look.
Expecting a cute store front with wooden racks full of typical gluten free fare, it was surprising to find the the building actually houses a modest counter backed by the cleanest kitchen imaginable. Everything in the building was spotlessly scrubbed and conveniently arranged. It was obvious from first glance that Kneaded Specialties was more about quality products than putting on a good show.
I was greeted at the door by Sherry McGarrah and a smell that is indescribable. After stopping for a moment to enjoy it (imagine the old cartoons where a scent grabs a character by the nose and carries them along) the tour began.
Sherry was incredibly kind and happy to share all she could about her business. She had spent years dealing with a mystery ailment that eventually got diagnosed as Celiac Disease. She and her gluten free family began wading through the available gluten free products and found them lacking.
Unfortunately, the diagnoses came to Sherry too late for her to be able to enjoy the heavenly food she creates for others. She doesn't seem to mind, though, her mind is on giving the gluten free elite food we can enjoy eating again.
Trial, error and a lot of experimentation has led to a line of over 45 gluten free products that taste like "the real thing". There are no grainy, dry or crumbly textures to be found. Everything sampled was moist and delicious, with none of the weird taste associated with most gluten free baked goods. The white sandwich bread and Luscious Lemonade Cake are among the absolute must haves.
Kneaded Specialties is not only a spotless kitchen with a great product (as if that weren't enough) they have also earned the honor of a Celiac Sprue Association Recognition Seal. This is an honor that is hard to earn. Among other things, it means that the food coming out of the Kneaded Specialties bakery has been tested gluten free down to 5 ppm (parts per million). Pretty remarkable considering that food can be labeled gluten free with as much as 20 ppm.

The best gluten free baked goodies I've had in the area. The cinnamon rolls are to die for! The honey butter biscuits and the lemonade cake are indeed divine. Definitely worth every penny - tastes like the real stuff and not a gluten free food. Thanks for posting the info and thanks to Kneaded Specialties for making me feel normal again!
