Klinsmann names MLS-loaded roster for USA vs Mexico

Today, U.S. Men's National Team head coach Jurgen Klinsmann named 22 players to train for USA-Mexico on April 2 at University of Phoenix Stadium as the clock ticks down to 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil.

Led by Seattle Sounders FC forward and U.S. captain Clint Dempsey, the majority of the roster is comprised of MLS players, with a total of 19 from 11 clubs. As the game isn't scheduled on an international fixture date, most European players are not available, but Bayern Munich forward Julian Green has been released by his club for his first match representing the United States. Born in Tampa, Fla., 18 year-old Green is a dual citizen of the U.S. and Germany.

DaMarcus Beasley and Michael Orozco of Puebla represent Liga MX.

"Everyone knows the clock is ticking," said Klinsmann. "This is a huge opportunity for our players to show where they are at and to make their case. We expect them to give a really strong performance against a Mexican team that is now basically coming back on track. They need to prove now that they badly want to go to Brazil."

The USA and Mexico are meeting for the first time since the USA's "Dos a Cero" victory on Sept. 10, 2013, in Columbus, Ohio, which secured the USA's advancement to 2014 World Cup. The previous friendly between the rivals also proved historic when an Orozco goal and a Tim Howard shutout delivered the MNT its first victory against Mexico on their own soil, a 1-0 win on Aug. 15, 2012, at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City.

More than 47,000 tickets have been sold for the clash of the fierce rivals USA and Mexico.
