Klassen and Nesbitt win National Championships Saturday

It was a solid day Saturday for two Canadian Olympic Gold medallists at the 2013 Canadian Single Distances Long Track Speed Skating Championships at Calgary's Olympic Oval Saturday.

According to the Olympic Oval website, Cindy Klassen of Winnipeg, Manitoba, won the women's 5000m with a time of 7:10.67 to beat Tori Spence of Kamloops, British Columbia by 12.45 seconds. Lauren McGuire of Ottawa finished in third place with a time of 7:27.24.

Klassen, won the Olympic bronze medal in the women's 5000m and the Olympic gold medal in the women's 1500m at the 2006 Olympic Winter Games in Torino, Italy.

Meanwhile, another Olympic gold medallist, Christine Nesbitt of London, Ontario, won the women's 1000m with a time of 1:14.84 to beat Anastasia Bucsis of Calgary by a whopping 1.83 seconds. Nesbitt won the women's 1000m at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver.

Finally, Jordan Belchos of Toronto won the men's 5000m for the second straight year. The 2013 Canadian Single Distances Long Track Speed Skating Championships concludes Sunday with the 500m and mass starts.
