Kitwara won the prize award for being the first man to the top of the Hayes street hill. Kitwara failed to catch the lead woman and lost the overall challenge between the genders. Based on the previous course record differential between the two genders, the elite women start with a five minute head start on the elite men and the rest of the field. The first person, regardless of gender, to reach the finish earns an additional $25,000. Kitwara had won this prize last year in setting the new men's course and world record, but this year he was unable to catch Lineth Chepkurui. As the course record differential is now only 4:36, the women will not expect to receive as large of a headstart next year.

Scott Bauhs (Mammoth Lakes, CA) was the first American male in fifth place with a 35:55.
