Kitten Shower helps kittens in need

The second annual Kitten Shower, sponsored by the Humane Society of Greater Dayton, will take place on Sunday, May 23, from noon to 2 p.m. The Kitten Shower will be at the humane society building at 1661 Nicholas Road, Dayton. To register or for more information, please call 937-268-7387.

"Every spring, thousands of kittens are born, and the humane society takes in many unwanted and stray kittens," says Karen Wiliams, a member of the Friends of the Humane Society. "The sheer number of kittens can be overwhelming, and the shelter needs lots of help to provide care for them."

The event helps the humane society collect much-needed supplies for this important work. But it's more than that. It's also a great family event. Williams explains, "The Kitten Shower is decorated like a baby shower. It's a lot of fun. People register and bring a supply to donate. There are games for children and refreshments. And people get to spend time with the kittens and find out about fostering and adopting."

Items that are needed include cat litter, wet or dry kitten food, Kitten Milk Replacement (KMR), beds, Royal Canin BabyCat 34 Food, and gift cards to local pet supply stores.

Williams sums it up this way: "This event reminds people what a challenge it is every spring to deal with the extra kittens that come in. It also reminds people of what sweet, deserving animals the kittens are!"
