Kitten Covers: standing out and making smiles (Photos)

Alfra Martini is a New York based artist that was recently featured in The Telegraph for her Kitten Covers. Martini has recreated famous album covers, but incorporated four legged cuties into the graphics as a tribute to albums that have influenced her. It must be said that in graphic design and when trying to increase exposure it is ok to be quirky. Some marketing analyses show that ads which may be seen as outlandish or funny have higher recall rates. A quirky piece in your portfolio will also highlight your ability to think outside the box while presenting content in a memorable way. When presenting quirky work to a potential employer, remember to also discuss the technical skills required for the project. This set of work clearly shows strong Photoshop and image manipulation skills.

Not every project has to be systematic or to reach a marketing goal, and, actually, doing something humorous or for your own entertainment will keep you from feeling burnt out. Meanwhile you will be sharpening your technical skills, smiling, and maybe even get good press on your personal work.
