Nothing says summer camp like a tie-died t-shirt. Traditional tie-dye projects celebrate the true spirit of summer creativity. For a fun twist, try taking the tie-dye out of the t-shirt and make these groovy tie-dyed cupcakes!
These would be great for an arts and crafts party or a summer get together. Allow children to help create the colored cake batters by stirring in assorted food colorings. Use 2,3 even 4 different colors to make these colorful little cakes as wild as you wish! Use the method bellow to make 12 cupcakes or one 8 x 8 square or round.
Ingredients:
- 1 box of white or yellow cake mix
- Cupcake liners
- Assorted food colorings
- Small bowls for mixing the colored batter
- Frosting
- Sprinkles
Directions:
- Mix the cake batter according to the box directions.
- Scoop one cup of the cake batter into a small bowl.
- Add 4-6 drops of the food coloring to the small bowl, mixing until the batter is a uniform color.
- Repeat this step for additional colors.
- Use a spoon to drop the first color into the bottom of the cupcake liner.
- Repeat with the additional colors until the cake batter is approximately 1/2 inch from the top of the liner.
- Bake according to the cake mix directions.
- When cool, top with frosting, sprinkles or any decoration you desire.

These are really great! I'll definitely be making these with my kids soon!
Thanks Rebecca, they are yummy too, we can't stop eating them!
Ohhhhh, lady...These are going to be too fun to make! I've never seen tie-dyed cupcakes! We have to make them vegan style and that will add another challenge for us, but it will still be fun all the same...Nice job!
Thank you SaVonni! If you do make a vegan version and write about it, let me know and I will add a link to your page :)
