Kissimmee restaurants that value customers, part 2: Taste of Punjab Indian food

I have a very diverse palate and love a wide variety of ethnic food. Indian food is one of my favorites; so many people don't realize that it extends far beyond the standard curry.

We have a lot of British tourists and residents in the Walt Disney World area, and Brits appreciate Indian cuisine. Thus we have quite a few Indian restaurants in the Kissimmee area.

Out of all the options, my runaway favorite is Taste of Punjab, located at Taste of Punjab Indian Restaurant, 4980 West Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway, just down the road from the Denny's where I was shamed by the manager for giving two extra coupons to fellow diners. You can read about that experience here.

Taste of Punjab is a standout from the chains that line Highway 192. It's a little family-owned restaurant in a plain and somewhat rickety building, but don't let appearances fool you. Once you step inside, your nostrils will fill with the delicious, pungent scent of Indian home cooking as you're greeted warmly and shown to your table.

You'll know you've come to the right place for authentic Punjab-style Indian cuisine when you see that most of your fellow diners are Indian, with a few Brits scattered around for variety. Don't eat too much of the hot, buttery, fresh naan because you'll need a good appetite for the feast to come.

I normally visit Taste of Punjab at lunch time because they have insanely good deals. You get naan, papadam with two dips, your main dish, and rice pudding for under $8. I highly recommend the mushroom methi malai, an Indian taste treat that's hard to find in restaurants. If you don't like spicy food, don't worry. Taste of Punjab is happy to adjust the heat level to your individual taste.

I can happily recommend Taste of Punjab based on the food alone, but they also make my list of restaurants who appreciate their customers. I've been surprised many times by a discount on my bill. I don't have a coupon; it's just a gesture of appreciation for the fact that I'm a regular customer. It's that kind of attitude, as well as the amazing Indian cuisine, that keeps me coming back.

Here are two other great restaurants in the same area that make great alternatives to the Denny's at 5855 West Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway with its hostile anti-coupon-sharing atmosphere:
