A 10-year-old Kissimmee, Florida boy had such an odor about him, his teacher became extremely concerned. The boy told his teacher that he could not remember the last time he took a bath. The child’s clothes were stinky and they were dirty. His hair needed shampoo and body was in dire need of a bath.
According to the Sun Sentinel News on Aug. 29, when the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office deputies talked with the boy he told them that he did not have any clean clothes. The deputies went to the boy’s home to speak with his mother and she let the deputies into the home.
WFTV.com reports that the deplorable conditions in the home were unimaginable with dirty clothes all over the place, soda cans littering the floors, filthy water in the bathtub and dog feces from the family’s seven dogs were on the floor. Even the dog food had mold growing in it.
Betsy Velasquez, 34 lived in this house with her five children ranging in age eight to 14 and her seven dogs. The mom was charged with child neglect without great bodily harm. A quick look into priors for this woman showed that she had been charged back in 2009 a $104 fine for leaving a child unattended in a vehicle.
The Department of Children and Families came out and arranged for the children to stay with relatives. The seven dogs were taken away by the Osceola County Animal Services.
