Gene Simmons revealed on an interview with Dominski and Doyle on WCSX -FM that Kiss, who is scheduled to perform at Cobo arena on September 25, is planning to recreate the show they performed there in 1975. That show was recorded and featured on their hit album "Alive!"
Kiss' live album was a forerunner to an onslaught of live albums to follow, including Peter Frampton (who is appearing this Saturday at the Meadow Brook Music Festival), Cheap Trick, Bob Seger and many others. According to Simmons, the record company thought they were crazy wanting to do a live album, but it turned out to be another great career move. When at the top of their game, Kiss had four platinum albums in less than two years.
Simmons, with his in-your-face, authoritative attitude, sometimes seems to be too full of himself. But why not? He's a brilliant business man and marketing genius and he usually knows what he's talking about.
Although the band was formed in New York City, Simmons claims that the band was determined to record their live album in the Motor City in 1975. "We don't have a song called 'New York Rock City'." I'm sure he gives a similar line of bull in every city on the tour, but it sounded good and is a positive thing for Detroit.
Simmons also stated that this show at Cobo will be recorded and released at a later date as a DVD. I'm guessing it's going to be a long concert, because I can't imagine the band not performing some of the songs from their first new-material album in a dozen years, "Sonic Boom" to be released in October.
Tickets for the "Kiss Alive 35" show go on sale at 5 p.m. today through Ticket Master. A Meet & Greet Experience ticket is a mere $995 and a Premium Ticket Package is $295. Okay, Gene, I think you've gone too far with the marketing thing this time.
