The 2014 Class was released this morning on the Rock Hall's website. Here are the inductees in alphabetical order of the 16 who were nominated earlier this year:
Hall & Oates
Nirvana, Ronstadt, Hall & Oates and Gabriel are all being inducted as first time nominees. In Nirvana's case, its also their first year of eligibility. Gabriel now owns the distinction of being a two-time Hall of Fame inductee after being inducted as a member of Genesis.
KISS frontman/guitarist Paul Stanley wrote this on his website about the induction: "The spirit of rock and roll for me has always meant following the paths I choose regardless of what my critics or my peers think. For 40 years KISS has built an army that apologizes to no one and I'm honored to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame knowing we have remained true to ourselves and our fans."
Daryl Hall of Hall & Oates told Rolling Stone "I didn't think it would happen as long as the people in power stayed in power".
Additionally, the following artists are being inducted:
Andrew Loog Oldham (Ahmet Ertegun Award for Lifetime Achievement) The Rolling Stones first manager.
Brian Epstein (Ahmet Ertegun Award for Lifetime Achievement) The Beatles first manager.
The E Street Band (Award for Musical Excellence) --Perhaps a make up induction for not being included with Bruce Springsteen when he was inducted.
Those who were nominated but didn't make the cut include Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Deep Purple, LL Cool J, The Meters, N.W.A., The Replacements, Link Wray, Yes and The Zombies. Chic also missed the cut after garnering a new Rock Hall record 8th nomination.
The 2014 Induction Ceremony will take place in April in New York City. Details will be announced soon.
