Raised by the Mistress, a new memoir by Jamilah B. Creekmur, is raw and honest storytelling. The book, written with New York Times bestselling author Aliya S. King, is the story of Creekmur growing up while her mother maintained a long term relationship with someone else's husband. Every page has the potential to break your heart. This book challenges me personally to go to the dark places in my own family's story. I love the fact that the author not only reveals her journey and point of view but boldly grants her mother and 'stepfather' a voice as well.

On Tuesday October 19th in New York City we look forward to celebrating Jamilah Creekmur's book Raised By The Mistress and her courage to rise above the dirty laundry credo of hiding family secrets. Abiola's Kiss and Tell Live Revue, a love, sex, and dating storytelling and performance series, will feature an interview and reading by Creekmur.

The powerhouse lineup of readers and performers for the October edition includes: Kenya Byrd, Megan Carpentier, Jamilah 'Sister Toldjah' Lemieux, Paul Case, Tracy Renee Jones, Leah King, Jackie 'Jack from Brooklyn' Summers, Sherri Smith and Mo Beasley.

Abiola's Kiss and Tell Live Revue is a free reading and performance event, so bring a friend for the fun and inspiration. Doors open at 7pm and we take the stage at 7:30pm. Madame X is located at 94 West Houston Street and we're on the second floor, Tuesday October 19th 7-10pm. Champagne drink specials are only $5.
