Two big summer tours were announced earlier today, but only one will be stopping in Iowa. While the 23-city tour by Nine Inch Nails and Soundgarden will almost entirely skip the Midwest, KISS and Def Leppard announced a 42-city tour today that will stop right here in Central Iowa. The latter tour, dubbed the "2014 Heroes Tour", will come to Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines on Wednesday, August 20. Ticket and VIP packages for the Des Moines show will go on sale Friday morning at 10 a.m. through the Wells Fargo box office and all Dahl's Tickets locations. Ticket prices have not yet been announced. KISS and Def Leppard announced the tour at the House of Blues in Los Angeles at 1 p.m. today at a press conference that was streamed live through Live Nation, the main sponsor for the tour. A dollar from each ticket sold on the tour will go to the Wounded Warrior Project and their charitable partners.
KISS, who will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on April 10, is one of the world's best-selling bands of all time, having sold well over 100 million records worldwide. The band is on "greatest bands of all-time" lists authored by VH1, MTV, Hit Parader, and Gibson, and they have won 16 Metal Edge Readers' Choice Awards and a People's Choice Award. KISS has had 28 different albums certified as gold, platinum, or multiple-platinum. The band's endless list of hit singles includes such classics as "Detroit Rock City", "Rock and Roll All Nite", "Beth", "Calling Dr. Love", "I Was Made for Lovin' You", "Lick It Up", "Forever", and "Heaven's on Fire". The band will celebrate its 40th Anniversary this year.
Def Leppard has also sold over 100 million albums worldwide. The UK band is one of only five rock bands in history to have two albums certified as diamond-selling (over 10 million copies) in the U.S. They have had 10 albums certified as gold-selling or above, and they have collected 18 Top 10 hits over the years, including the #1 smashes "Photograph", "Rock of Ages", "Love Bites", "Let's Get Rocked", "Stand Up (Kick Love into Motion)", and "Promises". Def Leppard has also won two American Music Awards.
