Kisha and Jennifer Hoffman say winning ‘Amazing Race' was surreal

Kisha and Jennifer Hoffman say watching themselves win “The Amazing Race: Unfinished Business” was a surreal moment.

“Knowing that we were that close (to the second place team), we both got a sense of, they’re actually racing with us … it really, really was a close race,” Jennifer said in an interview Monday, one day after their win was shown on the season finale.

Kisha and Jennifer won $1 million on the season finale of “The Amazing Race: Unfinished Business,” crossing the finish line of a five continent-23 city race first.

Relive Kisha and Jen’s ‘Amazing Race: Unfinished Business’ win …

Jennifer added that the team was very happy with the way producers portrayed their win and very happy with the final cut of the episode.

“We were watching it for the first time, just as any other fan of the show was watching it, so we don’t know how they’re going to edit it. There was a lot of build from just watching the show, again knowing the outcome but also seeing how it’s going to pan out on television … they tape us 24/7, so what they’re gonna use and how they’re gonna portray the episode is actually phenomenal.”

The sisters were first featured on season 14, when they finished fourth after Jennifer made an emergency restroom stop right before the Beijing pit stop.

More from my interview with Kisha and Jennifer Hoffman:

How does it feel to have finally won “The Amazing Race”?

Jennifer: “I think we’re still trying to wrap our brains around the fact that we actually won. Again, we knew for six months that we were the first people to cross that finish line … but watching it play out on television with the other teams was a special moment, especially on Mother’s Day having our mother here and just spending that time with her … it just feels so surreal.”

You said several times you were doing this for your mom, to repay her for everything she has done for you; how did she react to your win?

Jennifer: “Throughout the entire season she actually cried and had real anxiety attacks every episode, so knowing the outcome again and having her share in that moment with her being absolutely clueless to what’s happening, all she did was cry the entire two hours.”

Is there anything you think you did prior to this race but not the last that led to your win?

Jennifer: “I think there’s a level of preparation that you can do and a lot of things you can assume going into the race as to what’s gonna happen … we definitely prepared in the ways of taking swim lessons … making sure we packed a little bit lighter than last time, even though we actually had two book bags this time as opposed to the last race we were on … just little things like that in preparation for something that you don’t really know how to prepare for.”

Have you made any plans for the money, or is it still sinking in?

Kisha: “We’re still taking it all in … we’re just gonna sit back, take it in … figure out how we want to make it work for us.”

If the circumstances allowed for you to run the race again, such as an all-star edition of TAR, would you run?

Kisha: “We’re tired. I’m tired. The next time I travel the world, I want to do it under less stress.”
