The Kirkwood Rotary Club hosted a candidate forum for city council on Thursday February 20th, 2014. Four candidates are running for 3 open seats: Timothy Griffin, Bob Sears, Paul Ward, and Jayson Thornton.
Griffin said that Kirkwood is a great place. He also said that Kirkwood has challenges of providing services without raising taxes. Sears said he enjoy serving on the council. He mentioned that the up coming members on the council will be looking for city administrator. Ward said that Kirkwood has strong value and traditions. Ward said he believe that he can assist the new administrator with his strong leadership. Ward argued he had no problem making tough decisions. Thornton said the reason he put his name on the ballot because Kirkwood has a bright future and he want to be a part of it. Thornton said,
My local community, when I was drafted be be a candidate on the ballot, they told me that our local community, Meacham Park, want to be fully integrated and to say we're here to help in the business of the City of Kirkwood.
Sears and Ward are currently members of city council and running for a second term while Griffin is running to return to council. Thornton is running for his 1st term.
