Kingstowne Park master plan revisions set for public input

Plans to revise the master plan for Kingstowne Park south of Alexandria, Virginia are up on the table. The Fairfax County Park Authority plans to take public comment at a meeting slated for Wednesday, January 18 at 7 pm in the Helene Wilson Community Room at the Franconia Government Center, 6121 Franconia Rd., Alexandria, VA.

The authority conducted a previous meeting to discuss plans for the 76.9-acre park on Old Telegraph Road last August. It started the planning process in 2010. The land is owned jointly by the authority and Fairfax County Board of Supervisors.

At the forthcoming meeting, staff will discuss the park's current uses and conditions and the plans. It will then take public comments. Anyone wishing to speak can sign up by calling (703) 324-8662 or emailing parkmail@fairfaxcouty.gov. People can also sign up at the meeting.

The park contains a hiking trail and picnic area but also considerable wetlands and other natural areas and stormwater ponds. One of the dams burst two years, ago, necessitating the revision.
