Saturday was a dual occasion for the Park Slope community as the Kingsboro Temple of Seventh-day Adventists in Brooklyn celebrated the Sabbath and welcomed a new associate pastor, Edsel B. Cadet.
Born to Serge and Jocelyne Cadet, Edsel is the youngest of four children who grew up in a Haitian household and worshipped weekly at the Beraca Seventh-day Adventist Church of Hollis, NY.
Cadet is a graduate of Stony Brook University with a Bachelor of Arts in English and a minor in Journalism. Law school was his next stop until he heard God's call to pastoral ministry, which he credits to his experience as vice president of the Stony Brook Gospel Choir and coordinator of Friday Night Live program for his church.
He later enrolled in the Andrew University Theological Seminary, where he pursued a Master of Divinity. During his graduate studies, Edsel served as the administrative pastor of New Life Fellowship; the host of Sabbath School University on the Hope Channel; the founder and president of the Andrews University Adventist Youth (AUAY) group; and was one of the University's lead student chaplains whose sermon was featured in the Adventist Review.
Cadet, the newest employee of the Northeastern Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, "remains passionate about teaching principles from the Bible, character development, and preaching the gospel wherever he is called."
The Kingsboro Temple of Seventh-day Adventists is located at 415 7th Ave. Brooklyn, NY.
