Grammy Award winning Tennessee good ole boys: Caleb, Nathan, Jared, and Matthew Followill all braved the New York City bitter cold to give their fans a pre–thanksgiving concert in Rockeller Center via The Today Show.
Multi-platinum-selling, Grammy Award winning rock band, Kings of Leon, performed hits such as: ‘In the Water’ and ‘The End’ from their newly released album: ‘Come Around Sundown’ which Nathan Followill says, “I think Come Around Sundown has something for everyone on it, and I hope it leads people to discover us in a totally new way.”
Today Show co – host Matt Lauer asked the band why they decided to record their latest album in NYC rather than their usual Nashville Haunt.:
Drummer Nathan went on to say, "I think just doing a record at home in Nashville, it's more for the comfort level of sleeping at home in your own bed, hanging out with your friends. It's a little more chilled out. Coming to the city, New York; space is a lot smaller so there's not a lot of room to get distracted from making the record. New York is just get in there, get your job done, and get out."
The innovative rock stars also performed their popular smash hit: ‘Use Somebody’ from their most successful album to date: 2008’s ‘Only By The Night’, which catapulted the band into the mainstream.
The multi platinum album: ‘Only By The Night’ also spun off mega hit ‘Sex on Fire’.
Drummer Nathan Followill describes winning the Grammy record of the year for ‘Only By The Night’ as a "surreal and drunken" trip to the podium to collect an award for "Record of the Year" from Ringo Starr.
The groups albums’ success has also led to KOL’s appearing in several rock magazines such as: Rolling Stone and Spin, performances on Saturday Night Live and The Today Show’s - Summer Concert Series, a sold-out show at New York City’s Madison Square Garden, and headlining slots at: Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, and the Austin City Limits Music Festivals basically spreading their southern charm and amazing music all over the world!
The Kings Of Leon, (who’s name is derived from their grandfather Leon) feel, “their new album Come Around Sundown will be neat for people who know them only from their hits because they’ll get to hear where they come from musically.” “We think a couple of these songs will turn on newer fans to our older music because it’s hard to imagine the band that wrote, 'Sex on Fire' is the same band that wrote, 'Trani' from “Youth and Young Manhood”.
