It's been a long time since we first saw a glimpse of Kingdom Hearts 3 and fans have been waiting patiently (note: kicking, screaming), ever since. Square Enix decided to help ease the pain by releasing an HD remastered version of the original game, along with Chain of Memories and 358/2 Days. This “remix” collection, which came out last year, will be receiving a sequel in time for this holiday season. While it may not be the elusive third numbered entry in the series, yesterday's new trailer should be enough to keep fans pumped for more information.
The Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX is set to include the Final Mix versions of Kingdom Hearts II and Birth By Sleep, as well as Kingdom Hearts Re: Coded. Today's trailer showed off a few scenes taking place in the Nightmare Before Christmas section, and the difference in visual quality is immediately noticeable. Jack Skellington, Oogie Boogie and Santa Claus are all present, making this trailer surprisingly appropriate for both the Japanese and North American release dates.
The footage presented in the trailer plays a total of three times, for those who really want to pour over the finer details of this high definition conversion. The first playthrough features both SD and HD versions of the scenes, while the second is completely in HD and the final is a look at the original resolution.
In addition to HD versions of the included games, Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX will include new content that will expand upon the series' lore and character backstories. We're still not sure how extensive this new content will be, or whether fans will need to make themselves familiar with it before Kingdom Hearts 3 releases. North American fans can expect to find this title hanging in their stockings on December 2nd, while Japanese players (or those who would rather import a copy), can get it on October 2nd. The 2.5 ReMIX will be available on the PlayStation 3.
