Interest in the Kingdom Hearts franchise is once again growing at a fevered pace. Kingdom Hearts 2 which was released in 2005 to the Playstation 2 to big sales number and a rabid fan base. In the time since then, the series has had iterations on handhelds exclusively with the major consoles being held out for numbered installments in the series. This year saw the release of Kingdom Hearts 1.5; a collection of the first game, in its Final Mix edition, Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories and a viewable version of Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days; on Playstation 3.
Recently, Square-Enix announced that they will release Kingdom Hearts 2.5 in 2014. This similarly remixed edition as 1.5, will consist of Kingdom Hearts 2: Final Mix, Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep Final Mix, and Kingdom Hearts: Re:Coded for Playstation 3
At E3, Tetsuya Nomura released a teaser trailer for Kingdom Hearts 3, which caused excitement on the internet about the game; no official date was given for the game, but functioned more as a reminder of the existence of the game. This week a gameplay video from Kingdom Hearts 3 surfaced that will surely excite fans of the series, but even though this footage has been unveiled fans will have to wait a while for the game to be released. IGN reports that since Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy XV share a director in Tetsuya Nomura, Kingdom Hearts 3 will come later after Final Fantasy XV to make sure the game is of the highest quality.
With all these new developments in the series it seems that the title’s popularity is on the rise and will most likely go on to be one of the most anticipated games of the next generation of consoles.
