‘Kingdom Hearts 3’ director talks Keyblade weapon, hints at new transformations

Tetsuya Nomura has provided some additional details in regards to the Keyblade in the upcoming “Kingdom Hearts 3,” which currently does not have an official release date. According to a report from Siliconera on Dec. 30, the game director recently told the Famitsu gaming magazine that a recent trailer provided a glimpse at some of the new capabilities being added to the key-shaped weapon.

Tetsuya Nomura hinted that, aside from becoming a gun, the Keyblade has other “unbelievable transformations.” You can find some screenshots from the final game from the current “Kingdom Hearts” saga in the slideshow to the left of this article and the comments below (courtesy of Siliconera):

In the trailer, we saw it transform into the shape of a gun, but there are also some other unbelievable transformations.

The game director also hinted that the Keyblade may have other uses outside of being a weapon in “Kingdom Hearts 3.” When Famitsu brought up the topic of being be able to use the key-shaped item as a vehicle, Tetsuya Nomura responded with the following statement:

According to suggestions from the planning side, it’ll likely be used as some sort of gimmick. The Keyblade has infinite [possibilities].

Tetsuya Nomura announced “Kingdom Hearts 3” during this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo through a video message. He would later disclose that the sequel will signal the end of the current story arch that began with the first game in the series and stretched out to other titles.

The software product is slated to be released on the PS4 and Xbox One, the next-generation systems that were launched in Nov. of 2013.
