"Kingdom Hearts 3" and "Final Fantasy XV" won't be a part of GamesCom 2014. According to a report from Gaming Bolt on Aug. 10, Square Enix confirmed that both video games are going to be absent from this year's big European convention. Instead, the publisher will be showcasing several other titles in the upcoming lineup.
The biggest of which is "Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 Remix," which comes with three games, two of which are playable: "Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix" and "Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep Final Mix." The third game, "Kingdom Hearts: Re:coded," will only be remastered with cut scenes. Square Enix is going to provide demo stations so that attendees can try out the compilation on the show floor. The other playable titles include "Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn" and "Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris."
Square Enix also has some new games from the popular "Dragon Quest" and "Final Fantasy" franchises. However, they are probably not what hardcore players are looking for. The company is going to be showing off "Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call" for the 3DS as well as "Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen" and "Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King" for mobile platforms.
Finally, the publisher may have been planning to announce "Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition" at Gamescom 2014. However, a retail listing leaked the remastered port on the PS4 and Xbox One early. The new version comes with native 1080p support as well as all the post-launch DLC from the original open-world action-adventure game.
Gamescom 2014 has an official start date of Aug. 13. Fans of "Kingdom Hearts 3" and "Final Fantasy XV" have to wait longer to hear more about both next-generation action role-playing games, however. The last remaining big event for this year is the Tokyo Game Show, which takes place starting on Sept. 18. A screen featuring that third numbered installment of the "Kingdom Hearts" series can be found near the top of this article (via the franchise's Facebook webpage).
