New details may have been revealed in regards to the graphics of the two upcoming multiplatform video games, "Kingdom Hearts 3" and "Final Fantasy 15." According to a report from Enix Origin on July 1, Square Enix is using DirectX 11 to build the visuals of both PS4 and Xbox One video games. As a result, the latest installments from the popular franchises should end up looking much better than previous entries.
DirectX 11 adds many new features such as advanced ambient hair, lighting, occlusion and tessellation. However, the elements were added specifically for NVIDIA graphic cards. On the other hand, the PS4 and Xbox One consoles use AMD GPUs. Square Enix will most likely needed to port some of the potential features of DirectX 11 to the next-generation systems.
Although "Kingdom Hearts 3" and "Final Fantasy 15" are being developed on the PC first (before being transferred to the PS4 and Xbox One), Square Enix has not yet official announced if both software products will be released on the computer platform. However, a representative from the company previously disclosed that he will be open to a port. While some games from the "Final Fantasy" franchise have come out on the PC, none of the "Kingdom Hearts" titles were released for computers.
Square Enix completely ignored showcasing "Final Fantasy 15" at last month's E3 2014. The publisher did briefly mentioned "Kingdom Hearts 3" with a short sequence near the end of a trailer for "Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 Remix." With lower software sales being forecasted by the company over the next fiscal year, both titles may not be coming out in the near future.
"Kingdom Hearts 3" and "Final Fantasy 15" are both being developed at the same time. Despite some crossover, including Tetsuya Nomura co-directing the two projects, Square Enix reassured fans in the past that the company has enough resources to prevent any delays on both projects.
