The third episode of "King of the Nerds" kicks off with a live gaming competition. Each team is given two quadcopters and control pads that must be navigated through an obstacle course while the opposing team attacks the quadcopter with "live ammunition" (not really, Nerf guns). Two members fly, two shoot. With just five hours to develop offensive and defensive strategies, the teams get to work.
Brandon, who is from Texas and has pistol-shooting experience, ends up on the Orange team's shooting squad along with Joshua. Since the Orange team only needs four people for the competition, Ivan sits out the competition (dressed…as chicken panda). Moogega and Danielle (AKA Panser) choose to be the pilots.
Meanwhile on the Blue team, Celeste tries to train Virgil to fly the quadcopter. Alana and Genevieve are on the firing squad. Curiously, there's no mention that Celeste's experience in first-person shooters might make her an excellent shot.
Each team has three minutes to fly through the obstacle course collecting points:
- 10 points for large gates
- 100 points for small gates
- 500 points for the chomper gate
- 500 points for the fire gate
- -500 points for getting shot down
Orange team's Danielle flies against Blue team shooter Alana. Here's how she did:
- Small Gate: +100
- Chomper Gate: +500
- Fire Gate: +500
- Small Gate: +100
ORANGE: +1200 points. Danielle's copter hit a gate and eventually broke, grounding it so she couldn't get any more points
Blue team's Celeste flies against ridiculously overconfident Joshua:
- Small Gate: +100
- Chomper Gate: +500
- Fire Gate: +500
- Small Gate: +100
- Josh shoots down the copter: -500
BLUE: +700 points
Orange team's Moogega vs. Blue team shooter Genevieve:
- Small Gate: +100
- Chomper Gate: +500
- Fire Gate: +500
ORANGE: +1100 points
Blue team's Virgil vs. Orange team shooter Brandon:
- Small Gate: +100
- Large Gate: +10
- Fire Gate: +500
- Small Gate: +100
- Large Gate: +10
- Fire Gate: +500
- Small Gate: +100
- Chomper Gate: +500
TOTAL: 1820 points. Orange team's 2,300 points loses to Blue team's 2,520 points
When it comes time for the Nerd-Off, Orange team's Joshua and Danielle engage in a battle of uh…wits. Danielle musters up some tears and Joshua musters up some lies (he claims he will vote for himself when he's actually voting for Danielle) and of course Ivan isn't convinced by the manufactured drama.
Blue team votes for Brandon and Orange team votes thusly:
- Joshua: 2
- Danielle: 3
It's Danielle vs. Brandon in the Nerd-Off. With two hours to prepare, there's now a rift between Joshua and Danielle. Practice involves a small remote control truck and a ball, but the real game involves a remote controlled full-sized golf cart and an oversized ball. Drivers race around the obstacle course to be the first to push the ball into the goal. The first person to score two goals wins the Nerd-Off. Danielle pilots the red cart and Brandon pilots the yellow. It's probably not a surprise that the cute gamer girl wins this one.
Joshua serves up the inevitable drama thusly:
I wonder if Danielle's one of those forgive-and-forget individuals? *Laughs* No, she's a woman, she won't forget it.
Brandon goes home, Danielle returns to wreak her inevitable revenge, and we'll be back for another episode next week in a battle of superhero trivia.
