King Juan Carlos of Spain to undergo back surgery

HM King Juan Carlos of Spain is headed back to the hospital for yet another major surgery on March 3. The Spanish royal palace announced today that the King needs an operation on a distal hernia in his back. The condition of his back has been monitored and was revealed last week in a regular checkup to have deteriorated. The operation will be done at La Milagrosa clinic in Madrid where the King will need to be in the hospital more than 10 days. He had been scheduled to travel to Morocco as a guest of King Mohamed VI; that trip will be rescheduled.

Shockingly this will be the seventh surgery the King has undergone in the last two years alone. Last year was dominated in the news by an artificial hip the King had implanted and then needed a follow up procedure on. He injured his hip by falling on a controversial elephant hunting trip to Botswana. While leaving the hospital he spoke to the press offering an unprecedented public apology for the incident.
