A Kindle Fire HD discount is reportedly available to select customers at a popular online retailer. Amazon Student members qualify for the $50 discount, but only if they also have an active Amazon Prime membership. There's another benefit to signing up for a free Amazon Student membership, new members who enroll by the last day of January will be automatically enrolled for the College Cash Sweepstakes. The prize is $5,000. There is also a Kindle Fire HD Giveaway, and 500 Amazon Student members will win a free tablet. Note that Amazon Prime membership is not free.
According to a Jan. 1, 2013 report by Android Authority, Amazon Student members who have the Amazon Prime membership should use the code KNDL4STU to receive the discount, " . . . which should get you a 8.9-inch Kindle Fire HD tablet running on a dual-core Texas Instruments OMAP 4470 processor running at 1.5 GHz, a screen resolution of 1,290 x 1,200, and 16 GB of internal storage." The Kindle Fire HD WiFi model and the LTE model are both eligible for the promotion. They also qualify for the website's Super Saver discount when sold and shipped by Amazon Digital Services.
"The Wi-Fi 32GB and 4G LTE 32GB and 64GB versions are all also available under the discount," pointed out Electronista so students have even greater options.
A quick peek at Amazon.com reveals that the Kindle Fire HD WiFi model has a price tag of $299 while the LTE model retails for $499. Android Authority cautions that the Kindle Fire HD discount is available only through Jan. 30, 2013. In addition, "the code will be usable at least 24 hours after activating your Prime account."
