On Monday, November 4, Spokane-area author Frank Zafiro announced on his Facebook page that the Amazon Kindle ebook edition of his sports fiction novel "All That Counts" will be on sale from Wednesday, November 6 to Tuesday, November 12.
According to Zafiro, "Kindle Countdown Sale!
"My novel, 'All That Counts', will be available for $.99 beginning November 6, and the sale price will count down over the course of a week until it is back at it's regular price of $2.99. So get it while it's cheap, hockey fans!
"P.S. It is also available in audio, narrated by the talented sports narrator, Dan Czerwonka."
"All That Counts" , available from local publisher Gray Dog Press under Zafiro's real name Frank Scalise, is a heartwarming story of a recreational hockey player from Spokane named Graham Wilson who wants to become a goaltender. Along the way, he learns a great deal about love, life and friendship. As Graham gradually becomes a better goalie, he helps some of his teammates deal with their own struggles and grows closer to his wife Beth.
The book also has educational value for people who want to learn more about hockey, thanks to Wilson's first-person narration describing several games against various local teams and advice he gets from a more experienced goalie. As Wilson figures out what works for him in terms of equipment and techniques for protecting his goal, he gives out nuggets of wisdom that could help Spokane-area readers grow as players.
In addition to all of that, "All That Counts" is a lot of fun both for hockey lovers and people who know absolutely nothing about the sport. The book has gotten several rave reviews from experienced players who can relate to Zafiro's protagonist.
On Amazon, Gail B. Leatherwood said, "From the first quote on page one, Frank Scalise brought back all the memories--the ribald and profane locker room talk, the bruises to both body and ego, the struggle to find one's own 'style,' (Terry Sawchuk was my idol,) the tight focus on the next save, the agony of the sure knowledge that every loss is the goalie's fault--it's all there.
"There's also the thrill of a great save, the satisfying "thunk" of a hard shot caught on the pads, the smirk when you outsmart the shooter. Scalise tells it all. If you've never played the game, read this and you'll see why some of us, believe it or not, want to stand in the way of a projectile headed our way at 80 miles per hour."
In addition to the Kindle ebook edition being on sale, the audio edition Zafiro mentioned on Facebook is currently on sale from Audible for $1.99. The six hour and 59 minute unabridged audiobook usually retails for $19.95.
